2025 GLYN R. GLEASON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Selection Criteria 

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Club, Inc. (MLK Club) was founded in 1985 by the late Glyn R. Gleason.  It was formed to keep the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. alive and to help promote education, literacy, and cultural diversity in the community.  The Glyn R. Gleason Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Gleason.  Local high school seniors and first year college students are encouraged to apply.  Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded on a one-time basis.  Winners will be selected by the MLK Club Scholarship Committee in January 2025.  Students must meet the following criteria to apply:

CRITERIA

  • Must be pursuing a post-high school education at a technical school, 2 year or 4-year college/university.

  • Must demonstrate scholastic potential and provide an official school/college transcript. 

  • Must have participated in community service and/or school activities (sports, clubs, etc.)

  • Must provide one letter of recommendation (can be from a teacher, counselor, pastor, etc.)

  • Must provide a typed (double spaced) essay on the following questions (limit of 2 pages):  

    • What are your career plans?

    • What does Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Dream mean to you?  

    • How has the Civil Rights movement affected you today?

    • What will you do to keep the dream alive?  

    • What will you do to give back to the community?   

  • Must agree to attend to read my essay if requested. (If this event is done virtual, agree to be pre-recorded for the replay during the virtual event) at the 38th Annual Dr. King Unity Day Program on January 20, 2025, at Parkview Mirro Center, 10622 Parkview Plaza Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46845 if selected as a scholarship winner. 

  • Must agree to an interview with the MLK Club, Inc., if requested

  • Sunday, December 29, 2024, is the Deadline to submit the completed Glyn R. Gleason Memorial Scholarship Application, typed essay, letter of recommendation, official transcript, and your headshot photo [5 by 7 in jpg format].  These items can be sent electronically to mlkoperations2019@gmail.com or via regular mail to:

Applicant’s Statement of Agreement

I do hereby certify that the information given and contained in this application is both accurate and correct to my knowledge.  The MLK Club or a representative thereof, are given permission to verify the information enclosed for the sole purpose of awarding me the Glyn R. Gleason Memorial Scholarship.  I agree that the MLK Club can use my photo in the program book and news releases.  I also understand if selected for a scholarship, funds will only be paid when proof of enrollment is received from the college/university I plan to attend.  (Example:  Scholarship funds will normally be paid on or about the first week of August for students enrolled in college during the fall semester).
